I was honored to have been included in the 1st annual Piedmont Paintout this year in High Point, NC. I was chosen as one of 30 artists from around the country to participate. It was a great event and I believe it brought a new perspective of art and art appreciation to High Point.
The event started on Thursday, Sept. 18th with a “quick paint”. We had 3 hours to paint and frame a completed painting ready to be judged. We had a designated area on Main St. to paint, so I set up in the First Presbyterian Church’s yard and painted an interesting doorway on the rock structure. This was the first of my paintings to sell at the main event on Saturday.
Interestingly enough, the lady who bought this painting was proposed to just under the tree of this side of the church some 50 years ago. I was thrilled that the painting helped preserve some very important memories for her!
Below are some of my other paintings during the plein air competition:
We also had the opportunity to have a High Point University art student tag along as we painted. Alicia Miller was my student and she painted her first ever nocturne en plein air!…did a great job too!
I was honored to have received the “Viewers’ Choice Award” for my night painting, “Leave A Light On”. There are some paintings you can just tell are going to be special…this was one of those moments.
We were also featured in Plein Air Collector!
Thanks High Point friends, the J Gallery, and all the other sponsors for making this a great event!
